On the afternoon of April 21, Gince Kuruvilla Mattam, Consul General of India in Guangzhou, led a delegation on a visit to Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. Chen Hong, Secretary of the University Party Committee, met with Consul General Mattam and held discussions with the guests. The two sides exchanged views on topics including China-India educational cooperation, academic exchanges, and joint think tank development. Yan Ming, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, chaired the meeting.

On behalf of the university, Chen Hong delivered a welcome address and briefly introduced the university’s history, disciplinary structure, achievements in the internationalization of education, and its work in Indian Ocean regional and country studies.

In his remarks, Gince Kuruvilla Mattam reviewed the important outcomes of the 2025 meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He mentioned facilitating measures such as the launch of the Kunming–Kolkata air route and the simplification of Indian visa procedures and business visa approval processes, and clearly expressed support for exchange visits between universities in China and India. He noted that this was his first visit to Kunming and said the visit to Yunnan University of Finance and Economics had produced fruitful results. He expressed his deep appreciation for the university’s active contributions to promoting bilateral cooperation between China and India and stated clearly his willingness to build a mutually beneficial and win-win partnership with the university.

During the meeting, Zhu Cuiping, Dean/Director of the Research Institute for Indian Ocean Economies (Center for Indian Ocean Region Studies) of the university, delivered a thematic presentation on policies related to China-India economic cooperation, potential areas of cooperation, and development pathways. In light of current trends in regional economic development, she also provided academic reference for deepening cooperation between the two sides in multiple fields.
