Finals of the “Telling Ethnic Stories” Themed Speech Contest Held

In order to deeply study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply to the descendants of those who swore the oath at the Pu’er Ethnic Unity Oath Monument, on the evening of March 14th, the finals of the Yunnan University of Finance and Economics “Pomegranate Blossoms” Cultural Festival series of activities–“Telling Ethnic Stories” Themed Speech Contest, sponsored by the University’s United Front Work Office and the University Youth League Committee, and organized by the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, was held in Lecture Hall 220 of Qiyuan Building on the Anning Campus.

After fierce competition in the preliminary rounds, 6 contestants from five schools took to the stage in turn. With full enthusiasm and vivid language, they closely focused on the theme of “Building the Chinese Dream and Drawing a Common Circle” to tell touching stories of ethnic unity and progress. After review, the competition produced 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 1 third prize. Zhang Yonghong and Mao Siqi from Zhonghua Vocational College, and Gao Xinru, each won the first prize in this speech contest.

Zhang Yonghong and Mao Siqi took the stage together and, with the theme of “Pomegranate Seeds Facing the Party, Jointly Building the Chinese Dream of Rejuvenation,” told the story of the Han, Yi, and Hani ethnic groups in remote areas of Yunnan working together to build roads and change the backward conditions of the border area. They profoundly reflected the concept of the Chinese nation as a community with a shared future, and inspired every Chinese son and daughter to carry forward and inherit the spirit of unity of “you in me, me in you.”

Gao Xinru, with the theme of “The Chinese Nation is One Family, Working Together to Build the Chinese Dream,” reviewed the story of the Red Army forming an alliance with the Yi people, and the story of the Hui people resisting Japan and defending their country, showing the spirit and strength of all ethnic groups working hand in hand, helping each other, and striving towards the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Li Yongxiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, commented on the competition. He believes that the activity uses storytelling to convey the voice of harmony, and is of great significance for carrying out education on strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation and cultivating the patriotic feelings of young college students. He commented on each contestant’s performance one by one and made suggestions for students to further improve their speaking skills and sublimate the theme of their speeches.
